A Blindside Charley 142
An all new Gyro-Cap design for virtually no tip/tail weight. Refine & define through extensive testing by Pro Rider Charley Patterson, He has reshaped the mould to enhance it's recoil off the wake with a wider waist-width, 15cm flat spot centre and Rider Response Flex System dynamics. Rounded corners and hollowed-out tip & tail for less swing weight and better controlled spins. Two Tracking channels with reverse bevels on tip & tail creates extreme hold while board is on edge. Three stage rocker with large clean flat spot for tracking, lift and more forgiving landings off the wake. Extra width and clean break off the wake.
Only two months now and I am enjoying it like crazy, It's not as easy as it looks ... … but then what Is ?
The first thing to learn is to just keep trying ... no one is the same and all have different levels of skiing or skateboarding or snowboarding experience.
I have not yet taught anyone to wakeboard that wasn't a reasonable Slalom skier before hand and it would seem a natural progression. It certainly is easier than Snowboarding, and I would say that to do the easy stuff like stay on ... is easier than slalom skiing but with complexity comes a degree of difficulty associated with surf sailing ... big time practice and big time wipe outs ...
Getting up ... quite simple when you know how ... the trick is to just sit in the water, toes pointing up at the sky, the front edge of your board just clear of the water and wait for the pull of the boat. As soon as you feel the pull ... it will be a huge drag ... nothing like you have felt before ... you must start to swing the foot you wish to have in front to the front ... you will pop up in a second.
Side slip ... the novice takes about two minutes before he sees his butt ... the first time that board goes side ways. You are chuffed you are up and are trying this little carve from left to right and right to left, crossing the wake ... when suddenly the board just goes sideways ... a slips like you just stood on marbles ... shoop ..and she's gone from under you and you're on your butt before you know it. The trick is to be aware of this 'side slip' cause by the cavitation of the skegs. They are small and are easily fouled by a little air making them ineffective and giving you the slipping feeling ... they light as well not be there. Practice going sideways ... pull in a bit with your arms, to create a little slack in the rope ..i.e. , no pull from the boat . As you do that swing your hips 90 degrees to the boat and force the board to cavitate or slip side ways.
Front Edge Face Plant ... Now just when you think you are cool, and have got the slip under control you saw you mate do a cool 180 degree front to back slip . You try it and half way round that front edge dug in and stopped fast than government cheque, a proceeded to plant your face firmly into the water at some speed. Solution ... just keep the edge up , this one area where the Snowboarding will come into play, and help you keep an edge and keep the front edge up.

Well you've come to the right place ... I manufacture the Killer Pylon to meet the specificications of your boat.
What does it look like ? It is about 12ft to 15ft off the base of the boat, made out of steel and held in a firm position buy industrial strength webbing braces. Why not chain, 'cause it is less of an eyesore and less of a hand sore if you might fall against the braces. It's also easier to assemble and adjust.
How much does it cost ? It will cost you approximately R 950.00 or US $195.00 (plus shipping). Why approximately, because it will be made up to fit your boat exactly ... with the correct number of supports and the right base to fit over your existing ski pole or fit on the base of the boat.
Backside When you cut in or out of the wake with the back side of the board on edge, and you're body is facing the boat.
Heelside Another term for backside.
Frontside When cutting in or out of the wake with the front side of the board on edge, and you're back is facing the boat.
Toeside Another term for Frontside
Fakie When you ride the opposite way that's natural for you. Left foot forward riders go right foot forward, right foot forward go left foot forward.
Switchstance Another term for fakie, used in place of fakie in the names of some tricks, at least that's what I thought, until Bill McCaffray confused the nation with his article in the May issue of WBM.
Blind Side When you rotate or land so that you can't see where you're going. i.e. a blind side backside 180 you rotate counter clockwise if you are right foot forward so that you have to perform a handle pass.
Load the Line Getting the rope tension to be tighter and tighter as you make you're cut into the wake. This happens when you do a progressive cut.
Tantrums A group of inverts in which you approach the wake backside, and when at the wake do an edge change so that the board is going the direction that the boat. Some examples of tantrums, would be: whirlybirds, indy tantrum.
Fronts A group of inverts when the board goes end over end to do a front flip. Examples: Front Flip, Speedball, Front-to-Fakie
Raleys A group of tricks when the board is flung out behind the rider's body in the air. Examples: S-Bend, Hoochie Glide, Oriental.
Rolls A group of inverts when you rotate back the way you came, your head goes down towards the wake you just came from. Example: Backside Roll, Frontside Roll.
Mobes A group of tricks when you do an invert, then a spin with a handle pass at the end. Example: Pete Rose, Fat Chance, Mobius.
Double Up When the boat circles around and drives through it's own wake to create a larger wake at which the rider enjoys to take flight off of and do incredibly BIG tricks. =)
Roast Beef A grab between your legs with your back hand on the heelside of the board.
Indy A grab on the toeside of the board with the back hand around the back foot.
Method A grab on the back of the board with the front hand.
Slob A grab with the front hand on the front of the board by the front foot close to the tip.
Nose Bone When you bone, or poke out your foot by bending one leg and extending another.
